On September 14-20, 2015, Lake Forest will again host the BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club. Named "Tournament of the Year" by the PGA Tour when it was in Lake Forest in 2013, the BMW Championship is conducted by the Western Golf Association for the benefit of the Evans Scholars Foundation. The BMW Championship is the penultimate event of the PGA Tour's Playoffs for the FedEx Cup. The top 30 will compete at the Tour Championship to determine the winner of the FedEx Cup. Founded in 1899 as the Western Open, the Tournament is the second oldest in the U.S. behind the U.S. Open. NBC and The Golf Channel will broadcast the entire tournament.
Parking: The best option for Lake Foresters or those coming in by train is to use the free shuttles from both Lake Forest's East Train Station (701 N. McKinley Road) or Telegraph Road Train Station (911 S. Telegraph Road), going directly to the Tournament. Taxi and limo drop-offs are directed to either train station.
The Lake Forest Preservation Foundation will offer guided historic architecture tours from September 15-20; call 847.234.1230 for details.
Additionally, the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society is hosting an encore showing of its award-winning exhibition “Hole in One: The Lore and Lure of Golf” at the museum until the end of October. “Hole in One” first premiered at the Historical Society in 2009. The exhibit covers all the local courses and clubs, from Onwentsia to Conway Farms. It features an in-depth examination of the bygone Mill Road Farm Golf Club, the highlight of the former Lasker estate south of Old Mill Road, which was once one of the most difficult courses in the nation. Visitors will also learn about the very first golf course in the Midwest, laid out by golfing great Charles Blair MacDonald on the grounds of Fairlawn in 1892. The Historical Society is located at 361 E. Westminster Ave, Lake Forest.
"Welcome Back, Give Back" Campaign
This year, three graduates from Lake Forest were awarded the Scholarship: Trevor Martinez and Sean Casey from Lake Forest High School and Shalonda Jones from Woodlands Academy. During Tournament Week, several local retailers and restaurants will be promoting the "Welcome Back, Give Back" campaign to benefit the Evans Scholars Scholarship program. When you shop or dine locally, a portion of your purchase will be donated to the Foundation.
All proceeds from the BMW Championship benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation, which has sent more than 10,000 student caddies to college since 1930. Since 2007, the event has raised more than $19.6 million for the program.
In the video clip below, Lake Forest High School recipients of the 2015 Evans Scholarship Awards Trevor Martinez and Sean Casey speak about what the program means to them.
