Electricity Providers

ComEd
Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) is one of the electricity providers for the City of Lake Forest. They own and maintain the electricity infrastructure and billing distribution system.

  • ComEd can be reached at 800.334.7661
  • For more information, please visit ComEd's website
  • Access ComEd's Outage Tool here

Electric Suppliers and Municipal Aggregation Information
Under Illinois law, the current electrical market is "deregulated," meaning that customers can contract with individual suppliers to purchase their electricity. Under these agreements, ComEd would still be the transmitter for your power and still bill you, but your electricity would be supplied by a different source than ComEd's. At this time, the City does not have a contract with an individual supplier and does not make any recommendations about suppliers. However, the City does encourage those looking at an alternate supplier besides ComEd to make sure to understand the terms of their agreement before signing. You can compare supplier offers on the Illinois Commerce Commission's website.

Cable Providers

Comcast
The City has an agreement with Comcast which allows all Lake Forest residents to have the opportunity to access basic cable services. The agreement also allows for the City to have two community cable access channels, 17 and 19. However, Comcast's operations and customer service standards are regulated through the State of Illinois Attorney General's Office.

  • Comcast residential local service can be reached at 866-594-1234
  • Comcast national residential service can be reached at 800-266-2278
  • Comcast business service can be reached at 800-391-3000
  • For more information about Comcast or to access your account information, please visit their company website
  • Information on your rights under the Cable & Video Customer Protection Law can be accessed here

AT&T
Some areas of Lake Forest are serviced by AT&T. They are held to the same operations and customer service standards as Comcast.

  • AT&T can be reached at 800-225-5288
  • For more information about AT&T, please visit their company website
  • Information on your rights under the Cable & Video Customer Protection Law can be accessed here

Natural Gas Providers

North Shore Gas
The North Shore Gas public utility company services the City of Lake Forest. The operations of North Shore Gas are regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC).

Alternative Gas Suppliers
As with electricity, the State of Illinois has "deregulated" the natural gas market, which means that individual customers can sign contracts with suppliers other than North Shore Gas to purchase gas. North Shore Gas would continue to transmit the gas to your home or business and still bill you, but the gas would come from a supplier other than North Shore Gas. At this time, the City does not have a contract with an individual supplier and does not make any recommendations about suppliers. However, the City does encourage those looking at an alternate supplier besides North Shore Gas to make sure to understand the terms of their agreement before signing.

The Illinois Commerce Commission provides a list of potential alternative natural gas suppliers that residents may opt-in to choose from depending on the location of their home.  To access the alternative gas suppliers list from the ICC click here.
