Water Plant

[Water Plant Project]

Thank you for visiting the Water Plant web page. The plant is located at 1441 Lake Road and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lake Forest Water PlantThe Water Plant is responsible for providing The City of Lake Forest with potable drinking water while complying with the water quality standards set by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. We are responsible for maintaining the Water Plant and its outlying buildings including various sewer lift stations throughout the City. Through the operations and maintenance of the water and sewer systems we provide for the health and safety of the customers we serve. There are nine Water Plant Operators manning the Water Plant and distribution facilities on varying shifts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water.

We are pleased to present a summary of the water provided to you in the last year. This Annual Water Quality Report (31k - 2 pages) details where our water comes from and what it contains. The entry point water supplied by the Lake Forest Water Plant meets or surpasses all Federal and State drinking.

The Lake Forest Water Plant is supplied by surface water from Lake Michigan. Water is drawn from Lake Michigan through 42-inch and 24-inch intake pipelines.

Watering Restrictions

The Department of Natural Resources and the City ordinance state that sprinkling restrictions are in effect from May 15 through September 15. Through September 15, the following sprinkling regulations are in effect:

  • Sprinkling is permitted on odd or even days, based on the odd or even last digit of your street address;
  • Sprinkling is discouraged between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. because water put on lawns during these hours is quickly evaporated by the afternoon sun; and
  • Newly installed lawns and landscaping, exempt from these restrictions, may be watered daily for a reasonable period after installation.

In the event of drought or an emergency water shortage, the City may impose further summer outside water use restrictions.

Lake Forest Drinking Water

The source of all our drinking water is Lake Michigan.  The water is treated using an Ultrafiltration Membrane System and we produce 1.4 billion gallons annually. Click here (31k - 2 pages)  for Frequently Asked Questions About the Lake Forest Drinking Water.

You can call the Water Plant between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 847-810-4650 to inquire about water quality issues.
