Recycling Containers -- The City of Lake Forest implemented the first phase of replacing all recycling bins with wheeled recycling carts. All households that did not receive a cart in 2011 will receive one in the fall of 2012. Every household will receive one free cart. Due to the City’s new efficient, automated pick-up, once your new cart is delivered, your existing bins can no longer be used for recycling. You are welcome to keep your bins to use for other purposes or If you wish to have your old bin(s) recycled, place them next to your new recycling cart on your pick-up day with a note attached stating, “please remove.”

Residents can purchase an additional 65-gallon cart for $55 or a 35-gallon cart for $50. If you would like to order a second cart (65 or 35-gallon) call (847) 810-3582.

Information about the City's new recycling cart program is available for download by clicking here.

Collection Location -- The 65-gallon recycling carts provided by the City must be placed at the curb and be ready for collection no later than 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled day. The cart should be removed from the curb by the end of the collection day. All recyclables may be placed together in the cart; there is no need to separate. Extra recyclable material may be placed in cardboard boxes next to the cart at the curb.

The City of Lake Forest utilizes fully automated collection vehicles that use robotic arms to pick-up and dump the recycling carts. Therefore, carts must be placed within three (3) feet of the street with the handle facing your home. Additionally, carts should NOT be placed within five (5) feet of stationary objects such as mailboxes, trees, or vehicles. As winter arrives, please do not place your recycle carts on top of snow banks or in the roadway. An area should be cleared at the curb or carts can be placed in your driveway.
