Household Appliance Disposal Guidelines
The Illinois Clean Air Act, amended July 1, 1992, requires a special handling of household appliances containing chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's). The City of Lake Forest collects items that contain CFC's
such as:
- air conditioners
- dehumidifiers
- refrigerators and freezers
A $90.00 fee for the first item and a $65.00 fee for each additional item is assessed to offset the CFC disposal cost for each item collected.
The City of Lake Forest also collects household appliances which do not contain CFC's such as:
- washers and dryers
- dishwashers
- microwaves
- garbage disposals
- trash compactors
- humidifiers
- stoves
- hot water tanks
- water softeners
A $65.00 per appliance fee will be assessed for each non-CFC item collected.
Collection Location- All items for special collection must be placed curbside. Items for collection should not be placed on the curb more than one day in advance of the scheduled collection
day. Collections cannot be made along private roads or drives.
Please visit the City's Recycling and Compost Center, which is available for Lake Forest residents only, located at 1381 Kennedy Road. (Route 60 west of Waukegan Road on the south
side of the street). |
