Donations

Many of the improvements to the Recreation Center and our parks have been made possible through donations.  You could purchase a paver to be placed in our outdoor patio area, which can be engraved to your liking. Download A Tradition of Giving Form PDF icon (503k - 1 page) form and send in for your paver today.

Some organizations and individual residents have chosen to donate to the operating and capital fund of the Parks & Recreation Department. These contributions lessen the tax burden of all residents. For more information on the opportunity to contribute to our community, call the Executive Director of Parks & Recreation, Mary Van Arsdale, at 847-810-3918.

Let’s all try to keep the Recreation Department a safe environment for everyone!

Payment Policy

All program fees must be paid in full prior to participating in any program or activity. Any current outstanding bills must be paid prior to registering for any future programs.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy

Refund Policy

All requests for withdrawals must be received in writing at the Recreation Center. The amount credited will depend on when the written request is received. Sailing, Fitness Center and Kinderhaven Preschool Center have their own policies. Programs run by outside contractors (such as Karate and North Shore Basketball) may have their own refund policies which would be noted in the program description.

For withdrawal requests received in writing no later than 7 days prior to the beginning of the class, a credit equal to 90% of the fee paid for the class will be placed on your account.

From 6 days prior to the start of class until before the 3rd meeting of the class, a credit equal to 80% of the class fee will be placed on your account.

No refunds will be given after the 3rd meeting except in the case of documented medical reasons or moving out of the local area.

KINDERHAVEN POLICY

Kinderhaven Preschool Center – The Kinderhaven registration fee is non-refundable. The first tuition payment (representing 10% of the total tuition) is due in May and is non-refundable. Please contact the Kinderhaven Director with any questions.

Photo Policy

Photos are periodically taken of participants in our programs. Please be advised that these photos are for the Recreation Department’s use only and may be used in future brochures, flyers or public relations. If you do not want your photo publicized, please contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 847-234-6700.

Drop in Activities

The gymnasium is open throughout the year for drop in activities for Lake Forest residents. Informal games of basketball are allowed when no instructional classes are scheduled. Basketballs are provided. Baskets can be lowered for the younger players.

We now have a new gameroom for everyone to enjoy! Ping Pong, Foosball, and video games are available. The gameroom is supervised daily after school hours and weekends. Stop by and check it out!

The Recreation Center is supervised by qualified staff during all drop in hours. Since the drop in hours change throughout the year, a current schedule is printed monthly and available at the Recreation Center. Click here for the current Drop In Schedule or you may also obtain current information by calling the program information line, 234-6702. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the use of the Recreation Center, please call Dan Deuel, Program Supervisor at 847-810-3940.

Room Rentals

Rooms are available on a rental basis to Lake Forest residents and local not-for-profit organizations.  Room rentals are arranged at times when no Parks & Recreation Department programs are in session.  For rental rates and schedule of availability, please call or email  Dan Deuel, Superintendent of Recreation, at 847-810-3940. Download a Contract for Use of Facilities.PDF icon (9k - 2 pages)

Gift Certificates

Gift certificates are available for the special person on your gift list! Certificates may be purchased in any dollar amount to be used for any program, service or court time. This is a great idea for birthdays, anniversaries or graduations!  We also have Rec Room Diner gift booklets of $5.00 (5 - $1.00 coupons) that can be used in our diner. They are great for gifts for kids and adults. Just to say thank you, happy birthday, or the be used by a child instead of sending them with a lot of money during programs.

Gifts and Gratuities Policy

Each year we face the difficult issue of gifts and gratuities. To help clarify our position for both staff and the public, a policy has been established.

Program participants have no need to reward employees in any manner except through cooperation and helpfulness in assisting us to give a high level of service to the community. Recreation Department services are paid for by the citizens' taxes and program fees. The acceptance of gifts and gratuities is contrary to established policy of the Park and Recreation Board.

From time to time, residents and users of the Parks & Recreation Department programs may wish to express their appreciation. We ask that this be done in one of three ways:

  • A donation to the Department or program in honor of the employee
  • An edible gift that can be shared with the entire work group
  • A note to the employee’s supervisor which will become part of his/her personnel file.

As a team, the Parks & Recreation Department is constantly working to provide citizens with high quality service. We hope that you understand the need for our policy. As always, we invite your opinion.

New to the Area?

All residents of the City of Lake Forest are important to us! If you are new to the area, the Lake Forest Parks & Recreation Department invites you to come in and find out what we have going on for you and other members of your family. Throughout the year, we provide a large variety of educational, social, recreational and sports activities for all ages and abilities. We also have a wealth of parks, trails, and facilities for you and your family to enjoy. To learn more about what we have to offer, give us a call at 847-234-6700 we will be happy to show you around the Recreation Center and explain any program or service that is of interest to you. As a potential program participant, we would like to meet with you and your family!

Financial Assistance

The Lake Forest Park & Recreation Foundation recognizes that there are community residents who may suffer from economic setbacks that might preclude their participation in Recreation programs. The Foundation has graciously set up an annual fund to help those in need. If such a need exists, please contact Superintendent of Recreation, Wendy McKiernan, at 847-810-3912 or pick up a scholarship application from the front office. A request for a scholarship must be made prior to the registration deadline.

Peanut Policy

We are requesting your cooperation in partnering with us to ensure a safe environment for children with nut allergies. Lake Forest Parks & Recreation Department has identified these operational practices for everyone to follow:

  • Parents with children that have a nut allergy are requested to list this information on their registration form in the medical conditions section and notify the staff as soon as possible.

  • When we are notified of a nut allergy and we know the severity of the allergy, we will notify families registered in that particular program. If the allergy is life-threatening, the program environment will automatically become a nut free zone.

  • For programs designated nut free, we will ask all families to cooperate by packing lunches and supplying snacks that do not contain any nut or nut by-products. Unfortunately, due to ever-changing processing practices and product ingredients, it is not feasible for us to provide you with a comprehensive list of what items to avoid.
  • This is where we need your assistance. We ask that parents take a few minutes when preparing a lunch or snack to review the list of ingredients on each item prior to packing it. We recognize that this may be an inconvenience for your child’s food choices, but the safety of another child’s life must take precedence.

Staff will do their best to monitor foods that may pose a potential harm to the allergic child. However, since many items may be without their original packaging and since we have so many children in each program, it is not feasible to inspect every food item from every child to ensure compliance.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation! Should you have questions with this practice, do not hesitate to give us a call at 847-234-6700.
