Lake Forest Sailing

 Lake Forest Sailing Program-Will Howard

Home Programs Race Team Events Staff

 About the Program

We offer the most comprehensive sailing program on Lake Michigan. Lake Forest Sailing will provide opportunities to sailors of all ages and ability levels, from beginners to aspiring National Champions in dinghies and keelboats.

Lake Forest Sailing offers a program that will allow a seven-year-old novice to enter and continueRegatta at Forest Park Beach indefinitely. Our fleet allows sailors to continue recreationally, but also excel in racing. Our racing teams (Junior, High School, College, Keelboat) will travel and compete both regionally and nationally, twelve months a year. Hurry to get your registrations in now!

Halloween Spectacular
Lake Forest Sailing Center
27-28 October 2012

Event Summary:
Sailors braved very cold weather over the weekend participating in the annual Halloween Spectacular. This year was the largest the event has ever been with participation just under 200 sailors in the three fleets. Sailors were met with 40 degree air temperatures on Saturday morning with North Easterly winds at 12-14knots. The breeze persisted to the right throughout the course of the day with building easterly waves. A total of 6 races were completed on Saturday in both the A and B division.

While on the Optimist and 420JV course, sailors sailed 3 races in the morning before heading on shore to warm up with hot soup and chili by the fire.  All of the sailors were busy throughout the day with on shore activities of pumpkin carving and caramel apple making. This provided some much needed energy for the afternoon sailing. The sailors headed back out to the racecourse in the afternoon to complete 3 more races before calling it a day, and returning back to shore.

On Sunday the sailors dressed in their best costumes for the annual costume contest. Congratulations to all of the sailors that participated in the costume contest! Unfortunately, the weather would not allow us to be able to sail on Sunday. After sending a test boat out to assess the conditions, it was evident that it was not safe for the sailors or the equipment to navigate the breaking waves out of the Lake Forest Basin. Racing was cancelled for the day.

There were 2 protests filed and one request for redress. The Protests led to the disqualification of New Trier Green in race 5B, and Mariemont and Oshkosh North in 6A. The Optimist request for redress was denied.

Congratulations to this year’s Halloween Spectacular winners Oconomowoc Gold in the Varsity fleet, Will Curtiss Jack Peters and Nickoli Gorman in the 420JV fleet, and Lawson Levine in the Optimist fleet.
