Let your young one discover the athlete within! Active
Athletes is designed for those getting ready to join their
peers in organized sports of every type this next school
year. Each week will focus on a different sport’s basic
rules, practices and drills in a comfortable, fun setting.
Teamwork and sportsmanship will be common themes throughout
the entire summer. In addition to learning a whole new way
to play, your child will also have time for water games,
free play and snacks each week. For a more enjoyable
experience children will be divided into two camp groups
based on age; 4-5 years and 6-8 years, to provide
appropriate instruction and safety. For more information
please contact Joe Mobile, Program Manager, at 847-810-3941.

Eco-friendly Geocaching. Also, we’ll be taking one overnight
campout each session to northern Illinois or Wisconsin! No
two sessions will be exactly the same! The Wildlife
Discovery Center will once again bring out animals every
week for us to learn about wildlife education and
conservation. There will be weekly field trips to big time
aquatic parks, go-cart racing, climbing walls, and much
more! We will learn about the ecology of our beautiful
wilderness areas. No bussing provided except for mid day

Because Why? Camp ( Ages 4
- 6 years old)
Does this sound like your
child? If your child is always wanting to know what, where,
when, why and how or asking how things work, the ‘Because
Why?’ Camp is a good fit for your child! Based on the same
Reggio-inspired philosophy used at Kinderhaven Preschool
Academy, the campers will delve into all the ins and outs of
topics that interest them! The campers will set the agenda
for in depth exploration of their areas of interest. These
topics could include ocean animals, how to mix paint colors,
construction, forest exploring, or any other area of
interest the children decide to pursue. Unlike traditional
summer camps, we will continue to explore and investigate
topics until the campers satiate their curiosity! Your child
will leave this camp with a creative, inquisitive spirit and
a new approach to learning! For more information, contact
Dr. Penny Robbins, Kinderhaven Preschool Academy Director,
at 847-810-3947.

Counselor in Training
A CIT (Counselor in Training) is a Junior Counselor who
is not yet old enough to acquire a paid position with the
Recreation Department, but still wants the experience and
structure of a summer job situation. The Recreation
Department's main purpose for providing this program is to
help the older youth of our community develop leadership
skills through a positive summer work experience.
This year all new and returning CIT’s must fill out the
attached application and be interviewed by the CIT
coordinator. This year’s group of CIT’s will be chosen based
on their application and their interview. We are looking for
young people who are committed to the program and have given
some thought to their application and who are prepared for
the interview process. There will be no guarantee of a
position in the CIT program and participation is based on
our camp enrollment and the number of CIT applicants.
CIT’s play an important role in our summer programs and we
require a sincere commitment and hard work from them.
It will also be a great learning experience and a lot of fun
for anyone involved in the program. The skills that
you will acquire during your summer as a CIT will help you
in any future job opportunities. Although being a CIT
will certainly help in obtaining a paid position with the
Recreation Department, it does not necessarily assure you a
job here in the future. The following information has
been provided to introduce you to the Lake Forest Recreation
Department's CIT Program. The program fee of $180 covers
extensive training, staff shirt, CIT-only functions and
administrative costs.
For more complete information check out the
C.I.T.
information packet.
Applications must be submitted to the Recreation Dept. by
April 9, 2012. For more information contact, Joe Mobile,
Program Manager at 847-810-3941.
