Parks & Forestry Section

The Parks & Forestry Section of the Parks & Recreation department works closely with community organizations and various City departments on park and tree-related issues.  Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Maintain 200+ acres of City parks
  • Maintain & plant trees in parks and public areas
  • Maintain Tree City USA certification
  • Maintain athletic fields in the parks
  • Maintain & beautify the community by caring
    for landscaping throughout the city
  • Maintain city bike paths
  • Mowing cul-de-sacs
  • Tree preservation on ravines & bluffs
  • Monitor insects & disease on private and public

    restoration & invasive species control
  • Installation & maintenance of playgrounds                 
  • Holiday lights throughout the business district
  • Removal & mitigation of dead or hazardous trees
  • Dredging the boat basin at Forest Park Beach
