Meet our teachers


The KINDERHAVEN DIRECTOR, Dr. Penny Robbins, is responsible for the day to day operations of the school, maintaining licensing and accreditation standards and supervision of staff. The director also serves as an educational advisor, trainer and support for the teaching staff.

The FACULTY AND DIRECTOR have degrees in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and/or related fields. Classroom assistants have some early childhood education and/or experience working with young children. Volunteers and student teachers may augment the teaching staff.

The staff to child ratio is 3-4 adults to a maximum of 20 children in the oldest two groups and 3-4 adults to 16 in the youngest. The teaching staff and director alike support Early Childhood Education and its relationship to the greater community. All faculty participates in on-going training and education, especially in the field of the Reggio philosophy, art, empathy and compassion in early childhood, and trends in child development and teaching methods. All faculty are trained in CPR, first aid and safety procedures. Additionally, each faculty member develops a research project, reading journal articles and writing their own observations and thoughts concerning their research questions. Lastly, they engage in a biweekly staff “journal club” presenting a journal article in an early childhood field which interests them.

Dr. Penny Robbins holds a BA in English, Education, and Physical Education from Eureka College, a M.Div. in Feminist Theology and Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Northwestern University and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She has worked with children in a variety of capacities, including as a director of Specialized Foster Care and Independent Living, a director of HIV/AIDS services, a youth pastor, a lecturer and workshop leader, a tutor, life coach and mentor. Dr. Robbins has been a part of Kinderhaven for over 14 years as the teacher of the Red Class and a consultant, and she is entering her 8th year as Kinderhaven’s director. She is also the President of Achievement through Creative Education, Inc., an academic tutoring and life coaching company. Dr. Robbins is excited to welcome returning and new children and families to Kinderhaven!!!

Ms. Kelly Sindt is returning for her 8th year at Kinderhaven Preschool Academy. She will be teaching the Red Class and will be fulfilling the role for the 5th year as the director of art education for the entire school. She holds her certificate in Early Childhood Education, has worked in various preschools, and was employed as a professional nanny for 15 years. Ms. Sindt is continuing her education in art and art education. She has extensive art experience and has two online stores: “Funky Egg Art” and “Penelope Belles.” ( and Ms. Sindt is the proud parent of two adorable Chihuahuas, Clementine and Tallulah. She is excited about the art projects that each class will pursue this year, and looks forward to the annual art show in May!

Mrs.Janice Price is returning for year number 16, and we are so happy to continue to have her experience, kindness, and enthusiasm! After serving in a variety of roles over her 15 years, Mrs. Price will be assisting in the Blue Class this year. Mrs. Price holds a BA in Education and Special Education from Bradley University. She is a life-long Lake Forest resident and has raised three children. Mrs. Price is “priceless” to our teaching team!


Welcome Mrs. Lisa Moulton!  This will be Mrs. Moulton’s 9th year teaching preschool and her first year at Kinderhaven. She will be teaching the Take Two class with Mrs. Faudel. She has a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Iowa and is a fully certified Montessori teacher. In addition, she has completed 12 hours of graduate-level early childhood classes from Concordia University. Many years ago Ms. Moulton visited the University of Chicago Lab Schools and observed a Reggio classroom in action. It was love at first site, and she is thrilled to join the staff at Kinderhaven, working with the students to discover, create and learn about the world together!


Mrs. Lisa Orsini is entering her 5th year at Kinderhaven! She will be an aid in the Purple, Blue, and Red classes once again. She currently lives in Libertyville with her husband, Andy, and their three children. She grew up in Highland Park. She was a stay-at-home mom, but she did some work at her chidlren’s elementary school. As her children got older, she began working at Crocodile Pie, a children’s bookstore in Libertyville. After the bookstore closed, she began working at the Lake Forest Fitness Center’s Kids’ Cottage. Mrs. Orsini has a great deal of experience working with children, and thoroughly enjoys it.


Ms. Heather Faudel is entering her 3rd year at Kinderhaven. She is a teacher’s aide in the Purple and Red Classes, and she will be teaching “Pets Galore”. Additionally, she assists Ms. Sindt in various art projects. She has a total of 7 years of experience as a preschool and toddler teacher. She has worked for the Lake Forest Recreation Center for 3 years as a summer camp counselor for two different preschool camps. She is currently pursuing her degree in early childhood. She is looking forward to the school year, assisting the children and watching them grow.


Mrs. Monica Krzeminski is returning to Kinderhaven Preschool Academy for her second year. She has always believed in the benefit of dramatic play and creativity in education. Her background in the arts and education help her bring this belief to action in her classroom. Monica holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Illinois and a Master degree in early childhood education from National Louis University. Upon graduating from U of I, Monica created her own company, Stepping Stone Productions, where she taught classes and performed for children. Later, Monica performed, traveled, and facilitated workshops with Metro Theater Company out of St.Louis. This includes her original role in the play Tomato Plant Girl. Her most recent work prior to Kinderhaven was teaching kindergarten in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago. In this position, she was a finalist for the Kohl McCormick Teaching Award. Aside from her passion for education she has a passion for being with and loving her husband and three young boys at home. All through her career, Monica’s focus has been to teach and build community in her classroom and beyond through creative play while still preparing kids for the rigors of their next academic journey.


This will be Mrs. Faudel's 27th year teaching preschool, and her fifth year at Kinderhaven. She is excited to be teaching the Take Two Class with Mrs. Moulton and subbing in the other classes when she can.  Additionally, she is the Early Childhood Coordinator for the Lake Forest Parks And Recreation. She holds an Associates Degree in Early Childhood from the College of Lake County.  She has also raised two children, one of which also works at Kinderhaven. Ms. Faudel also has a wonderful dog named Max, whom she adores! She is looking forward to a fantastic school year!
