YOUTH CLASSES

Young Authors Writing Workshop (5-9Y)
Every child has a story to tell. Watch your child bring imagination to life through this writing workshop. The workshop will cover the different parts of a story, the roles of the writers and illustrators, and how to use creative language to tell their own story. The class will culminate with each child creating and binding their story into a "published" picture book. Children will have opportunities to read their work to their peers during young author shared time. Journey intot he world of story writing with this wonderful program.

Location: Recreation Annex, Everett Elementary

Notes: Supervision for Everett students will be provided after school from 1:50 pm - 2:30 pm.

Young Chefs (5-9Y)
Engage your young chef in an interactive class of culinary creation! Young Chefs uses expert instruction and child-led design to whip up some delicious recipes. Your child can master snacks, appetizers, or desserts, and they will be sure to 'relish' in the fun of this class!

"I Built It" Woodworking Workshop (5-9Y)
This program offers hands-on woodworking experiences that allow children to use reel tools to construct structures such as a tool box, doll crib, rope ladder, bat and ball holder, and much more. Children are instructed in basic tool safety and have protective gear while having constant support and guidance from start to finish.

Tech Stars By Computer Explorers (Grades 1-4)
Minecraft
No matter whether you are new to Minecraft or already love the program, this class is for YOU! Techstars grants you access to a PROPRIETARY Mincraft.edu world you cannot get on your own! You and your partner will colaborate to learn essential crafting skills while searching for clues to unlock doors, complete scavenger hunts, tame wolves, ride pigs, and more. You will be introduced to the basic computer networking, the geometry of multidimensional objects, and rendering of video game graphics. Enroll and let the Minecraft adventure begin!

YOUTH WORKSHOPS

Magic Class (5-12Y)
Is magic in your heart? Has your child always wondered about the mystery of the magician? This class will help your little wizard learn a few tricks of the trade. Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading, and more. While the tricks may appear dificult, you'll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and always learn tricks that are age appropriate. Additionally, you can sign up for class again and again since brand new tricks are always taught each session!

Location: Kinderhaven, Lake Forest Recreation Center

Safe Sitter (11-13Y)
The Safe Sitter program is a medically accurate childcare curriculum designed to prepare 11-13 year old children to be safe and nurturing babysitters. Our instructors will team important life skills - business, medical, and safe habits - in this high quality course. Lake Forest Parks and Recreation sponsors this competency based, highly structured, interactive program. Students learn about a wide variety of topics through discussion, practice, and role play.

Notes: Please bring a peanut free lunch and drink to the full day session and a peanute free snack and drink to the half day session.
