Each year, City Council and operating departments work together to evaluate and prioritize services the City provides to residents. These internal and external services are rated as either core or elective.
CORE SERVICES are services that ensure the public health, safety and welfare of the community, and/or implement City Council directed priorities.
ELECTIVE SERVICES are services that enhance the quality of life and sense of place but are not required.
The goal of this exercise is to facilitate a process for understanding the scope of services the City provides, assist with prioritizing them internally and externally, and to ensure that the City allocates resources appropriately as part of the annual budget process.
