Bravo Waukegan, a Lake Forest-based nonprofit organization supporting music education in Waukegan public schools (District 60), announced that its annual benefit luncheon will take place Sunday, May 19, 2019. The benefit will be held at Lake Forest’s Onwentsia Club, 300 N. Green Bay Road, from noon – 2 p.m. The event is open to the public and tickets are $95. Contact Bravo at (847) 722-5821 for reservations and information or visit www.bravowaukegan.org/music-connects-us-to-the-world.
Themed “Music Connects Us to the World,” the benefit will demonstrate how Bravo helps connect Waukegan to our community and beyond by offering music opportunities to students. The fundraiser will feature a special live program performed by Waukegan public school musicians. Attendees will hear an inspirational talk and learn about Waukegan music students and why music is important to them. Funds raised will be used to support Waukegan public school music education programming.
Bravo’s many programs provide new and donated instruments; music instruction during and after school and in the summer; as well as performance and teacher professional development opportunities. Bravo impacts 7,000 students through its programs each year. Additionally, during the past nine years, Bravo has donated more than 2,230 band and orchestra instruments valued at $289,000. Bravo also sponsors five mariachi after-school bands for elementary schools and the annual Waukegan Music Festival at the Genesee Theatre, where more than 1,000 students perform.
