Your Partners at School

The Lake Forest Police Department has two Student Resource Officers who are partnered with the public and private schools in Lake Forest. Often called SRO’s, both officers are certified by NASRO, the National Association of Student Resource Officers. The SRO’s follow the national accepted triad model which is based on the principal that the SRO acts as a law enforcement officer, informal counselor, and an educator.

SRO Long (left) is assigned to Deerpath School, Sheridan School, Cherokee School, Everett School, St. Mary’s
and Country Day School.
SRO Grum (right) is assigned to Lake Forest High School, Woodlands Academy, and Lake Forest Academy.

The main duties of the SRO’s are to:

  • Provide security during the school day, special events,
    and athletics.
  • Provide a crucial link between school officials and the police department in order to relay information about incidents that occur outside of school that may affect the school, staff, parents, or students.
  • Help schedule required drills, review and help write safety and security procedures.
  • Help teachers instruct students in certain subject matters including: driver’s education, law, biology, self-defense and safety.
  • Take reports from students about crimes that have occurred outside of school and get the student connected with proper resources.
  • Help coordinate interviews with DCFS, the Department of Children and Family Services.
  • Help with disciplinary situations that reach the level which may require law enforcement intervention.
  • Act as a positive role model for students
Our Student Resource Officers welcome the opportunity to meet you. Please feel free to introduce yourself the next time you see them at school or any other activity!
