Property and Public Land Committee

The City owns and maintains an extensive portfolio of public lands, parks, nature preserves, ravines, buildings and other related improvements that contribute to the overall community character and quality of life. In addition, the City also owns various rights-of-way, remnant parcels and parcels that have been declared by the City Council to be “surplus properties” based on the determination that they do not serve an essential public purpose.

The City Council recognizes it has a fiduciary responsibility to regularly assess its inventory of land, buildings and related improvements to determine whether enhancement or disposal of assets are appropriate as well as to determine whether acquisition of additional assets is in the public interest.

The City Council also has a responsibility to manage and utilize public lands, buildings and other assets of the City in a manner that serves the public interest, protects the health and safety of the community, enhances the quality of life, and preserves the character and traditions of community.
