LEADERS

Law Enforcement Against Drugs Encouraging Responsible StudentsLEADERS is a program taught by Lake Forest Police officers to Deerpath Middle School students. When the program was initially developed the goal was to educate students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. In our effort to ensure the well-being and personal safety needs of the students are met, changes are frequently made to the core curriculum to make certain that current and future issues are addressed.

The topics currently taught to 5th graders include Lockdown Drills, Train Safety, Bike Safety, and Laws, Juvenile Law, Personal Safety, Basic Internet Safety, Introduction to Alcohol, and Introduction to Drugs.  In 6th Grade, students are taught about Cyberbullying.  In 7th grade, students get a presentation regarding Proper Social Media Behaviors and Sexting.  In 8th grade, students are taught about the dangers of alcohol, illegal drugs, and misuse of prescription drugs.
