Traffic Safety Committee
what is the Traffic Safety Committee? The City of Lake Forest established a Traffic Safety Committee, which meets as needed to discuss concerns from residents regarding traffic safety issues. This committee comprises representatives from the Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works, Engineering, and Community Development.
The Traffic Safety Committee strives to use the most effective and least intrusive signs, signals, and markings to manage street traffic and balance the need for moving traffic around the City safely and efficiently while considering residents' concerns for safety in various situations and locations.
The Traffic Safety Committee follows the guidelines established in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regarding the installation of traffic control devices, road signs, speed limits, and other traffic or pedestrian-related issues.
We welcome your suggestions if you see a safety or traffic management problem. The Traffic Safety Committee reviews all traffic safety requests and pursues warranted action based on the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Illinois State Law, and the City's local traffic policies.
