Schedules & Rosters
We have partnered with Lake Bluff Park District to enhance your basketball experience. Games and practices will be held in both communities. Teams will consist of players from both communities.
Instructional Basketball is centered on the concept of learning fundamentals of the game and achieving a feeling of success from participation. Therefore, the Basketball season will consist of practice sessions and instructional games dependant upon the number of teams. To better teach the basic fundamentals, the first 2 sessions will be strictly instructional practices concentrating on the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and basic concepts of offense and defense taught (Third through eighth will be introduced to boxing out for rebounds, playing man to and defense and setting up a screen and pick offense) by Recreation Department Staff. After the pre-season sessions, all players will be evaluated for team assignments. On the 3-4th session, participants will receive their team assignments, their uniform T-shirt and a schedule of instructional games/practices for the remainder of the season.
GOALS OF YOUTH BASKETBALL
The purpose of Lake Forest Recreation Department’s Youth Basketball Program is to provide young people with a safe and enjoyable athletic experience with emphasis on sportsmanship and fair play. All participants will be instructed in the fundamental skills of the sport including positioning, rules and basic strategy. Fundamental playing rules will be taught and enforced at a rate that is suitable to each age level. All players will be assured of playing at least 50% of each game and the opportunity to play every position with regular practice attendance. Practice = Play
During the first week of the program, Recreation Department staff and their coaches will evaluate all the participants during regular play, drills and scrimmages. After the first week the Recreation Department staff will conduct a live draft with their coaches. Recreation Department staff will make sure teams are balanced according to skill level and grade distribution.
