The Wildlife Discovery Center’s school programs meet many of the Illinois State Learning Standards for children ages pre-school through high school. We also adhere to the Next Generation Science Standards. Programs can also be customized to meet your specific learning needs. Our school program is interactive, with opportunities for hands-on learning. Sessions generally last 40 minutes each, with each group of children attending 3 separate sessions (up to 2 hours total). Visiting schools generally allow time after the program for children to have lunch (you provide) and enjoy the Elawa Farm Park playground (weather permitting), before they board the busses to leave. Our staff is skilled at helping your students have a memorable learning experience.

If your school, library, or community group is unable to come to the Wildlife Discovery Center, we can bring the Center to you through our educational and entertaining Zoo-to-You program. Our traveling program can be held in individual classrooms, or, for larger groups, in an assembly-type setting or community room. These programs can be geared to an individual school’s learning goals, or for groups of children and their families in non-school settings. Lessons and information will be age-appropriate and will include live animals. Fees vary based on group size and program location.

Located at historic Elawa Farm along the Middlefork Savanna in Lake Forest, the Wildlife Discovery Center is an exciting destination for group tours, especially for people who have an interest in wildlife and their habitat. Tours generally consist of a 1-2 hour wildlife program at the Wildlife Discovery Center. This does not include a break for lunch. We suggest a MINIMUM group size of 10 people and a MAXIMUM group size of 75.
