Understanding Electricity Solicitations

You may have recently received solicitations from third party electric suppliers– here’s what you need to know.

The City of Lake Forest has heard from many residents regarding the calls and letters they received from third party electric suppliers. The City currently has an electric aggregation program with MC Squared Energy Services, LLC (mc2) through October 2024. The City has not recently sent any correspondence regarding enrollment into a new electric aggregation program. Solicitations made by other electric suppliers that do not have a City logo or the City’s contact information are not associated with the City of Lake Forest. Any claims made by their representatives regarding your enrollment into the City’s electric aggregation program should be confirmed with ComEd.   Please be aware that mc2 will not call you, send marketing materials without the City’s logo, or come to your door, to solicit you for electric supply service.

If you are unsure if the electric company that has contacted you is working in conjunction with the City of Lake Forest, contact Mike Strong the Assistant City Manager to confirm the legitimacy of the program.

Residents have the option to receive electric supply from other retail electricity suppliers. The City recommends visiting the Illinois Commerce Commission website to learn more about electricity supply options and current rates.  Be sure to read contract terms carefully if you are interested in another electricity supplier’s offer.
