Metra Extends Everett Road Closure to Thursday, 8/24 at 7 am

Metra is replacing the at-grade vehicle crossing located on Everett Road (just west of Waukegan Road).

Everett Road will be completely closed between Telegraph Road and Waukegan Road beginning on Wednesday, August 16 through Thursday, August 24 at 7 am. Metra informed the City that they will extend the Everett Road closure through Thursday, August 24 at 7 am (one day longer than originally planned). If there are weather and/or contractor delays, the closure may extend an additional day(s). During this work, the crossing will be closed to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic.

View the detour map. Detour signs will be posted throughout the area. Drivers should expect delays. We encourage everyone to plan for additional travel time and take alternate routes whenever possible. In addition to the signed detour route, alternate east-west routes around the work zone include Route 60 or Route 22 via Riverwoods Road.

Metra will be replacing the current rubber crossing with concrete sections that are more durable. Trains will continue to operate but will need to slow down as they cross Everett Road and there may be some delays on the Milwaukee District Metra line. The work is similar to the repairs Union Pacific did at the rail crossings at Westleigh Road and Old Elm Road in September 2022.

While the railroad roadway crossings are Metra’s jurisdiction, the City is helping get the word out about the road closure since our residents are impacted.
