Tips for Watering Trees in a Drought
Northern Illinois is currently experiencing a drought. While healthy trees can usually withstand dry weather, during a drought all trees benefit from supplemental watering.
For medium to large trees, the Forestry Section recommends slow, deep root soaking via a soaker hose or slow running garden hose. For young and newly planted trees, they recommend tree irrigation bags (available at most home/hardware stores). Please note - newly planted trees need a minimum of 20 gallons of supplemental watering per week.
